English Class
Hope you all enjoyed the summer-sorry to see it go. Sorry you guys missed Pie-Eyes 50th birthday party. He looks great for being in the 50 club. Even with all the guests he had to mingle with, he still sat down and spent a half-hour with Cathy and me, catching up. Tom ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it ) and Donna have 2 wonderful daughters in their 20’s, and a younger son, looks like Willy material. He had dinner with Matt when he was working in Fla (he was on that job straight from Christmas to mid July). I gave both Joco and Stigs a call. Joco recalled about his indefinite grounds, and Stigs and Tom are to get together for golf soon. Garry and Penny ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it ) just celebrated their 26th anniversary. He has been a general construction teacher in the school district in Dover for 14 years, before that he was in business doing renovations. They, too, are empty nesters (Becky, John and Stephanie). Kurt and Dee ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it ) traveled with their 5th wheel trailer to Key West in June to celebrate their 25th. Their Nathan and Ashley are both college grads. In addition to their online soap business (www.scentualgardens.com) Kurt is assisting his brother-in-law installing and finishing custom hardwood floors. Mongo ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it ) reports that he is undergoing treatment for a low-grade survivable cancer. If you are ever in the area on Christmas, he usually has open house. Sorry I couldn’t get there last year, maybe this year. Walt’s ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it ) daughters Shuanna (college) and Alyssa (high school) are both grads this year. As I write, it is close to 100 degrees outside and he and Helene are basking in the ocean breezes on Long Beach Island. Bob Caldwell ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it ) checked in with an email that he and B.J. celebrated 29 years in July. They hope for Hawaii on their 30th. They are empty nesters twin son and daughter, 24 and son 19. Bob is a remodeling contractor and they have lived in Logan Twp NJ since 1986. They also have a place on the water in Rehoboth, and all the watercraft to go with it. Working on the 30th reunion, a bunch of us are scheduled to meet in August to start planning. Let’s get a turnout for Alumni Day or the banquet next year. In mid-August, Mongo, Kurt, Walt, Garry and I met at my house to kick-off plans for our 30th reunion. How we have changed! Guys, you have to make this upcoming reunion! Wayne, Lapent, Jim Wandling Andre Hunter , Freddie Mozzone and Jim Devine are among the missing-any clues? Here is a flashback: today (as I write) is the move-in day for the freshman, and the weather is identical to our first day of orientation 32 years ago-cloudy, steamy, very humid. I can remember being herded into the dining room (no a/c) for lunch and being offered the choice of PBJ or egg salad sandwiches. At least we had pink lemonade. I was reminiscing with some alumni after our Alumni meeting in September, and the topic was our interviewing day. On that day, I was one of the lucky ones to have eaten lunch in the back of the kitchen-Fast Ed, you were in my group, you may remember that. The rest of you were seated where there was space with the students. That must have been a hoot, because, as you remember when it was Family Style, the Waiter brought the food out, we dumped the plate ASAP so the waiter could get back to the kitchen right away to get more. So most likely, you went hungry that day if you didn’t react fast enough. We also compared notes on the delicacies that treated our palates-like spaghetti with sauce so thin it slid right off the pasta and pooled, or the always undercooked chicken, or 180 cream of wheat and the coffee cake bricks. On a sad note, Glenn Stevick has not been doing well, he has stage 4 Lymphoma, and is bedridden. He is forgoing the intense drugs that they give patients at this stage, so keep “Boss” and Phyllis in your thoughts and prayers.
